Cairns is an experimental music project founded in Missoula, Montana back in 2014 and expanded into a full band in 2016. The band sonically creates songs with influence from different eras and genres of rock music but qualified by removing guitars from the equation. This leads to unusual instrumentation with the band being focused around multi-instrumentalists Ryan Carr, Jenni Long, and Brian Tremper- the only permanent members of the band. There are mandolins, cellos, glockenspiels, and numerous other instruments that rise to the forefront in Cairns' music. Lyrically the focus is often on coping with the modern world and takes inspiration from dystopian and sci fi-novels and films.
